about

Stevie Wonder was one of Darryl's earliest influences, and not surprisingly a great deal of his musical vocabulary is at the core of Darryl's as well. The group's reinterpretation of the pop standard "Too High" reworks its original rhythmic context in the tradition of the personalized arrangements of popular standards which has always been such an important part of the jazz idiom, showing in this case the influence of the modal period in the open blowing and interpolated soli sections. Pianist Jason Shattil solos comfortably over the swinging cushion provided by drummer Butch Reed and bassist Matthew Parrish.
